Funding/Capacity Building Partnerships

Our core business is the development and management of partnerships with philanthropic and other nonprofit organizations to build the programmatic and organizational capacity of small to mid-sized community-based nonprofit organizations.  For more than 40 years, PACE has facilitated United Way of Allegheny County’s reach into the African American community through direct financial support and technical assistance.

Community Resource Development Partnerships

We leverage the skills of a broad range of partners (larger nonprofits, funders, industry experts, government entities, consultants, institutions of higher learning, churches and other stakeholders) to strengthen promising community-based nonprofits.  Examples of these partnerships include our Master Consultant Series (funded by the R.K. Mellon Foundation) run collaboratively with the Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management at Robert Morris University.  Another example is the collaboration with the POISE Foundation to cultivate and celebrate the development of African American Giving Circles in Pittsburgh.

Direct Consulting Services

On a contract basis, we provide individual consulting services to organizations in the areas of facilitation and planning, using our distinctive competencies to meet additional community needs.  Consulting clients have included the August Wilson Center for African American Culture (board facilitation), and the Multicultural Arts Initiative (grants program review), The Forbes Funds and Olszak Management Consulting, Inc. (community facilitation).

Education, Knowledge Development and Advocacy

PACE believes in the importance of adding our voice to the chorus of those advocating for the nonprofit sector on the local, statewide and national level.  To this end we are participating members in the Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership, Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO) and the National Alliance for Nonprofit Management.  We directly and indirectly provide focused learning opportunities for our grantees and clients and we feature and create/commission research relevant to our constituents and the greater funding community interested in their issues.
